Warn Thy Neighbor, Drink the Wine
Why now? Because only recently have I come into the information that has prompted my surge of panic for the situation of this nation. Present new ideas, collect evidence that supports more than casual alarm, proclaim it so others can be warned. For what? The label of “crackpot” and once quiet individuals cursing my beliefs because they obviously don’t want to understand them.
I am not a contentious person by nature, I am a creator and lover of enjoyment. If I didn’t feel my country in dire straits I would never be so vocal. Indeed the nation we live in works because its citizens are allowed to be vocal, petition the government for change whatever it might be.
Passion and apathy are so closely related that they can often times be mistaken for one another. That is where I am, I either throw myself fully into the cause or become so consumed by it that I burn my ambition out and exist without any emotion at all. The question now is warn thy neighbor, or drink the wine?
You cannot do both, for on the one hand you will have no time for pleasure and on the other you will be inebriated to the point of no action. One option is obviously easier than the other, but is the reward the same?
It would be easy for me to sit back and go along with the tide, lauding a man who promises change while at the same time watching people I thought I knew succumb to the enticements of an easier way of life. Who doesn’t want a life without fear, anger, pain, and hatred? Is there one mortal man who can truly provide not only our nation with this, but the entire world?
The answer is written upon the wall, but who will take the time to turn and read it?

I’ve had similar thoughts. Do I exist in this country without making thought of the morrow regarding her welfare? Or do I sink in up to my knees in political defecation? You’re right, the outcome with presumably be the same. As a single citizen, my voice is small. But if someone else hears that voice and together we can influence our country to prosper, I think I’ll get the knee waders.
I’ve been trying for the last three decades as I was taught by my father. Sometimes people just don’t want to hear. They want things for free regardless of the price to America. I refuse to despair however because I personally am led by a prophet of God. “Persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may and assemble, calumny may defame”!
Shannon,
I completely agree with you. And it’s true, sometimes people just don’t want to hear.
Kory,
I also find myself becoming more passionate about things the more I learn about and realize the wrongs that are taking place. That’s my answer to “Why now?” I think blogging about it IS doing something. It’s trying to get the word out and help others understand, regardless of whether or not they want or choose to listen. Sitting idly by and hiding under the guise of “I don’t want to be labeled as _______,” or “I don’t want people to think poorly of my opinions,” or “I don’t feel confident enough to speak up” would constitute not doing anything about it. We are asked to support the president, but we don’t have to submit ourselves and agree with everything he does and preaches. Those are two completely different things.
Keep on keepin’ on Kory. I know you have passions and I say keep speaking up regardless of those who believe it is a waste. You’ll never know what you are capable of if you don’t try.
Sprinkles? I thought it was Sparkles. I have so many unicorns I can’t really tell them apart anymore.
@Christian
Sorry, the name has been changed. Good to see you around.
I will never forget this line “Sometimes bad animals have to die”. Good stuff. I vote for you two to get together and recreate some of your stuff! Think what you could do now!
You were right all along! It IS Sprinkles. Now I just feel stupid.
